FCS Financial's College Internship Program - 12 Weeks

FCS Financial's agricultural/rural lending and related financial services internship is Unique-Rewarding-Memorable!!

Working with several mentors, interns learn the components of the lending process, from meeting the customer and taking the application, through credit analysis and decision, to appraisal and loan closing.  Additional time will be spent on learning credit fundamentals and credit philosophy.  Besides working in our Central Office in Jefferson City, interns will work in multiple branch locations with the local staff and regional specialists (Credit, Appraisal, Risk Management) to experience first-hand the level of service and personal relationships we have with our customers.

In the appraisal function, interns learn the process of appraising real and chattel properties from a state certified real estate appraiser, experienced collateral valuators and chattel valuators.  Appraisals are done for in-house loans and for non-FCS loans (so FCS collects a fee for the service).  Appraisers blend written communication and technology skills with interpersonal skills and the ability to work independently.  Their duties involve working outside and in an office.

With the risk management staff, interns learn the variety of risk management options offered by FCS.  We market, sell and service crop insurance, livestock insurance and life insurance.  This area of related services complements our commercial and real estate loan products.

Interns also complete one or more projects identified by FCS that are hands-on in nature and designed to add value to the company.  Presentations to the Board of Directors, senior leadership, mentors and other staff are done in late July prior to the end of the internship.

***Marketplace Interns are assigned to one of our three teams across the state.  Team #1 is located in Northern Missouri.   Team #2 is located in Central Missouri.  Team #3 is located in Southern Missouri.***

This position is classified as Non-Exempt under the Fair Labor Standards Act.

Internship Program - (12 Weeks)

  • Learn the components of the lending process

  • Learn credit fundamentals and credit philosophy

  • Learn the process of appraising real and chattel properties

  • Learn the variety of risk management options offered by FCS Financial including crop, livestock, and life insurance.


  • Complete one or more projects identified by FCS that are hands-on in nature and designed to add value to the company.

  • Presentations to the Board of Directors, senior leadership, mentors and other staff will be conducted towards the end of the internship.


  • Work with several mentors within various areas of the Association.

  • Interact with FCS staff as a team member.


  • Learn about customer relationships and marketing and contribute to FCS image as the leading agriculture financial institution committed to customers.
  • Other duties as assigned to meet the needs of the organization.





Required Skills

Minimum Qualifications

  • College sophomores, juniors, first semester seniors, or graduate students

  • Desired degree programs are Agricultural Business, Agricultural Economics, Animal Science, Agronomy, Agricultural Education, Agricultural Communications, General Agriculture, Business, Finance

  • Minimum 2.5 GPA

Required Knowledge and Skills

  • General knowledge of FCS Financial

  • General knowledge of the agricultural industry

  • General knowledge of agriculture/rural communities

  • General knowledge of financial services industry

  • General knowledge of basic financial/accounting terms and applications

  • Skill in using Microsoft technologies including e-mail, word and spreadsheet processing

  • Oral and written communication skills sufficient to discuss a variety of job-related topics, and to effectively communicate complex topics to a variety of audiences

  • Responsible to appropriately protect the confidentiality, security, and integrity of the Association’s systems and data and clients’ data.
